《帝企鹅日记》是第一部全面详尽描写帝企鹅群迁徙繁衍的纪录长片，拍摄周期长达13个月，素材影像超过120个小时。所有摄制人员都在南极安营扎寨，并且没有任何海空运送的可能，正由于摄制组的长期观测和坚持，很多珍贵镜头和极地奇遇才得以展现在世人面前。而在这之前，导演吕克雅克用了12年的时间进行筹备，观察帝企鹅的生活状况。吕克.雅克还编剧导演了《狐狸与我》，《从前有座森林》，《冰川与苍穹》。
