英语阅读不等同于单词机械的记忆和意思的简单串联,但是如果一篇阅读理解中有过多的生词,那么理解文章的意思就会成为水中月、镜中花。所以即使是在考试的最后阶段,考生也要牢记:单词记忆是阅读理解的必要而非充分条件。在最后阶段的查漏补缺,会让自己的阅读更加脚踏实地。考研阅读所要求的单词量并不是很大,但是很多同学在临近考试的时候,依然存在着很多单词记忆的盲区和弱点。在这种情况下,希望大家找出一本单词书,认真从第一页浏览到最后一页,把所有自己依然存在陌生感的单词摘抄出来,整理在一个小本上,随身携带,时时翻看。虽然离考试时间很近,但只要用心记忆,单词在短时间内还是会有一定程度的提高的。
细读真题
无论难度还是出题思路,历年真题的质量都非常高。如果考生在准备考试的时候只是把这些真题作为最后阶段自测水平的工具,那么实在是有点浪费资源。笔者建议,大家对真题的把握应该达到“三个标准”:第一,过去5—10年的阅读理解真题中没有一个单词是生词;第二,文章中没有一个长句是难句;第三,阅读理解的题目四个选项中,一个对,知道它为什么对,三个错,知道它们为什么错。达到了这三个标准,阅读基本功就过关了。至于需要细读的具体篇数,各位同学可以根据自己前一段复习情况灵活掌握。基础好、复习充分的同学可以多看几年的真题,而基础薄弱、刚开始着手的同学能够把近五年来的题目弄懂弄透也就可以了。
分类整理
在复习真题和做模拟题的时候,考生一定要对做过的文章内容做一定的归类整理。幻想在模拟题中巧遇考试时出到的文章不仅不现实,甚至有可能误导自己的复习,助长自己投机取巧和猜题押题的心理。但是,如果仅仅把一篇阅读草草看过,对一下答案,对我们提高自身的水平也没什么实质性的帮助。要使看过的文章对以后的阅读有指导意义,就必须做一定的归类整理工作。举个例子:考研阅读中经常会涉及经济类的文章,那么在最后的冲刺阶段,考生就应该把历年真题中此类文章和做过的模拟题中类似话题的文章归成一类,然后做以下三件事情:一是归纳本领域的词汇;二是熟悉本领域的热点话题;三是了解关于本领域内的主流观点。做好了这些事,在考场上遇见类似话题的文章时能触类旁通。
分析错误
许多考生在最后冲刺阶段都会花大量的时间和精力去做许多模拟试卷。这种复习方法不仅耗时耗力,事倍功半,而且会因为模拟题的仿真程度不够好,导致自己的做题思路发生偏差。因此,即便在最后阶段,建议同学们也不要大量做题,而应保证做题的效率和成效。模拟题可以做,但是量不要太大,否则就会陷入题海中不能自拔。模拟题的做题数量要和自己的英文实力成正比:一般程度的同学一周做一套模拟题足矣;自觉水平高的同学,做题的量可以大一些;到目前为止感觉基本大纲词汇和真题还没有完全吃透的同学,模拟题可以少做甚至不做。
在做模拟题的时候,对题目只停留在一个简单的对答案的程度上是远远不够的。既然我们花了时间和精力来做模拟题,就应该再投入点时间把它们研究透彻。在这里,建议同学们至少要进行一下错误分析,即把所有做错的题目挑选出来,进行分类整理,找出自己错误的原因,并进行改正。这样才能真正做到有的放矢,有针对性地进行冲刺。
总之,冲刺阶段的复习首先要戒骄戒躁,对自己的阅读水平有个正确的判断,然后再找到薄弱环节,进行针对性复习。行百里者半九十,只要方法得当,系统复习,相信在最后考试中一定会有良好成绩。

托福听力满分心得:从VOA到“听说”

就在前天我刚刚写完答学生问,帮助大家总结听力复习计划几分钟后,校内有个黎同学就开始围观我了,说哈哈老师,我托福听力考了满分哦!老师我当场吐血,说实话我最近也没有考到满分。接着黎同学应老师邀请迅速写了篇考后感,写得非常非常详细,异常认真,因为小黎是工科学生,相信他的考后感会对很多同学都有用和启发。
我先后考过两次托福,第一次102分,第二次108分,在第二次考试里听力居然满分,挺惊喜的。
我真正开始投入大量时间准备托福大概有3个月。由于还在上课,每天准备托福的时间也就是4小时左右。但平时去教室的路上、坐公交、吃饭时也经常是戴着耳机听VOA、《科学美国人》还有《托福高分作文》配套音频。这种零碎时间加起来平均每天也应该有一个小时,闲暇时间也经常是关了字幕看英文电影。
一般情况下,尤其是对于像我这种工科生,大学里在准备GT之前是很少会花大量心血准备英语的。记得有同学开玩笑说过,如果是高三暑假去考托福就好了。的确,没有GT的话,大学生的英语水平通常是逐年降低的。想让逐渐降低的英语水平反弹,肯定是需要一番决心的。
做事都要遵循一个循序渐进的原则,听力的提高也不例外。如果一个英语基础一般的大学生直接用VOA来练听力,那多半是坚持不下来的——过高的强度会导致大脑的“罢工”,非常容易走神。我开始练习听力时是用老托福的听力材料,就那种1分多钟1篇的。这套音频的语速、内容都不算太难理解,而且有对应的文章可以看,听的时候发现自己哪里跟不上了可以马上停下来看文章。如果想同时练习写作的同学可以换成《托福高分作文》配套音频听。
等到老托福听力材料已经能听懂80%,就可以提高难度了。作为面向外国人的英语能力测试,老托福的语速、连读情况和真正美国人说话自然还是有差别。而在老托福的听力材料之后,我就直接强迫自己听VOAstandard。这个跨度很大,主要是因为我没能找到难度居于两者之间的听力材料。VOA的语速已经比新托福考试要快了,但其价值也正是如此。所谓“求其上上得其上”,如果把VOA都能听懂,还怕托福听力吗?但果不其然,初听VOA时我大脑出现了严重的“罢工”现象,常常没听几分钟就走神了。为了让自己集中注意力,我开始“听说”。下面要重点说一下“听说”。
此“听说”非彼“听说”。上过新东方的同学基本都听说过“听写”,这个方法拥有一大批拥护者。但我在尝试了几次后最终没有采用,一是因为很耗时间,二是因为过程很枯燥。如果有比较有决心的同学不妨一试。而我采用的方法是“听说”——耳朵听到的英语嘴巴跟着说,哪怕没听懂也尽量模仿那种发音。因为有了大脑的这个反馈过程,这样做能让自己专注于所听的材料,走神现象有了很大的改善。而与“听写”
想比,这种方法花的时间较少,而且由于可以很快地听新内容而不是纠结于某个句子而一再重听,相比之下也没有那么枯燥。
不过我必须承认一点:直到考完托福,我听VOA也是很吃力的。我当时是下载十篇几分钟一段的VOAstandard,放到MP3里面反复听。第一遍往往只是听个大概,夸张一点说,就是抱着“寻宝”的态度去听——听着听着发现,“哟,这一句我能听懂唉!”
然而反复听,第二遍,第三遍,第十遍……今天听完明天继续,直到某天发现,这几篇报道的大意自己都明白了,就可以换一批新的了。注意,此时的“听明白”是个幻觉:我们只是能听明白这几篇文章,并不是说已经有听VOAstandard的听力水平了。换十篇新的VOA,第一遍依然听得很崩溃。然后再是第二遍,第三遍……然后再换。
其实听力水平能听VOA后,已经足以应对托福考试了。但作为一个工科生,我对VOA的兴趣没有《科学美国人》大,于是又去下了许多《科学美国人》来听。《科学美国人》的语速更快,更有挑战性,而且有一个bonus:由于《科学美国人》的话题都是科学类的,对于理解托福中科学题材的文章、听力,甚至口语里的学科讲座部分也是有帮助的。
以上便是我复习听力的大致方法,肯定有不足之处,在此抛砖引玉,也希望能有同学能够提出更好、更系统化的复习意见!
最后再说一点临场发挥的问题:
我考过两次托福,第一次听力只有20分,第二次听力是30分,而之间只隔了一个月多一点。这一个月里我的英语水平并没有大幅度提高,这10分的差别绝大部分要归结于考试时的心态。记得有位老师讲过,大部分同学第一次考托福是考不好的。他的理由是,之前中国学生的考试都是在纸上完成,第一次真正用电脑答卷,还是这么重要的考试,自然心态会比平时差。(当然,即将第一次考托福的同学也不要泄气,谁说你就不可以成为minority呢?)我第一次考托福时,尽管准备得挺充分,但仍然很紧张。阅读做完时整个人都已经懵了——事后证明我的紧张很多余,那次托福阅读我拿了满分——再做下面的听力一个劲地在出冷汗,直到中间的10分钟休息,我才调整好状态。
而第二次考托福时,我便不断给自己积极的自我暗示,而且在考场上节奏掌握得很好。做过TPO的同学应该知道托福考试听力部分的时间安排,每三篇听力材料一共给10分钟作答。但实际上,如果听力材料理解得够好,笔记也做够了,我们答题的时间大概只需要6分钟。这多余的4分钟跳过吗?不是,应该用它来休息,而且是把它分成三份来休息:打完这篇听力材料的最后一道题,休息一分钟,再点next按钮进入新的听力。有了这一分钟的休息,再做下一篇听力感觉会十分不一样。托福考试持续4个小时,中间只有10分钟的休息时间,对体力是个很大的考验。如果能掌握好节奏,利用中间的各个小段时间给自己一个短暂的放松,相信对大家的临场发挥会有极大的帮助。
