有人说："出去做事之后，生活问题急需解决，哪有功夫去读书?即使要做学问，既没有图书馆，也没有实验室，哪能做学问?"
我要对你们说：凡是要等到有了图书馆才读书的，有了图书馆也不肯读书;凡是要等到有了实验室才做研究的，有了实验室也不肯做研究。你有了决心要解决一个问题，自然会节衣缩食去买书，自然会想出法子来购置仪器。
至于时间，更不成问题。达尔文一生多病，不能多做工，每天只能做一小时的工作。你们看他的成绩!每天花一小时看十页有用的书，每年可看三千六百多页书，三十年读十一万页书。
诸位，十一万页的书可以使你成为一个学者了。可是，每天看三种小报也得费你一小时的功夫;四圈麻将也得费你一个半小时的光阴。看小报呢?打麻将呢?还是努力做一位学者?全靠你自己选择!
易卜生说："你的最大责任是把你这块材料铸成器。"
学问便是铸器的工具。抛弃了学问便是毁了你自己。

If I attempt to talk across a room I find myself turning this way and that, and thus at alternate periods I have part of the audience behind me. You ought never to have any part of the audience behind you; you never can tell what they are going to do.

I am here to announce my retirement from the game of basketball. It won't be another announcement to baseball or anything to that nature.

Mentally, I'm exhausted, I don't feel I have a challenge. Physically, I feel GREat. the last time in 1993 I had other agendas. I felt that I wanted to play baseball and I felt that at my age, it was a good opportunity and time to do it. And with the death of my father, and I was basically trying to deal with that.

I've been given an opportunity by people before me, to name a few, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Doctor J, Eljohn Baylor, Jerry West. These guys played the game way before Michael Jordan was born and Michael Jordan came on the heels of all that activity. Mr Stern and what he's done for the league, gave me an opportunity to play the game of basketball. I played it to the best I could play it, I tried to enhance the game itself. I've tried to be the best basketball player that I could be.

Today I am very glad to be here to share with you my ideas of success. What is success? It is what everyone is longing for.Sometimes success would be rather simple. Winning a game is success; getting a high grade in the exam is success; making a new friend is success; even now I am standing here giving my speech is somehow also success.
However, as a person’s whole life is concerned, success becomes very complicated. Is fortune success? Is fame success? Is high social status success? No, I don’t think so. I believe success is the realization of people’s hopes and ideals.Nowadays, in the modern society there are many people who are regarded as the successful. And the most obvious characteristics of hem are money, high position and luxurious life. So most people believe that s success and all that they do is for this purpose. But the problem is wether it is real success. We all know there are always more money, higher position and better condition in front of us. If we keep chasing them, where is the end? What will satisfy us at last? Therefore, we can see, to get the real Success we must need something inside, which is the realization of people’ hopes and ideals.
