Backthen,shewasaspassionateaDemocratasIwasaRepublican.However,myfriendandIstillhadsomethingincommonthatwasmoreimportantthanallthedifferences.Wesharedthesamevaluesandtheyshowedupinadozenlittleways.Thatiswhywearefriendsalmost30yearslater.Furthermore,shehadbeenmovinginmydirectionpoliticallybefore,butSept.11,xxxx,broughtustoanewlevelofcommunication.Wehavebondedevenmoreduringthiselection.
Sadly,Ialsohavere-evaluatedsomeotherfriendshipsastensionsincreasedduetotheKerry-Edwardsdemagoguery.ThisisthefirsttimeinmemorythatI'veevenbeenappalledbybothspousesoftheDemocraticticket.IratherlikedTipperGoreandHadassaLieberman.Ithoughttheyweresweet.Andthat'sthewayIusedtofeelaboutmyliberalpals.But,nowaTeresaHeinz-Kerry-likeirrationality/ElizabethEdwardssnottyinnuendohasinfectedsomeofthem--anditmakesthemunpleasanttobearound.
Thiselectionmayleavethosefriendshipsinitswake.TheoutlookisdefinitelynotgoodfortheirChristmascardinclusion.
Sept.11,Iraq,thedemonizationofIsraelbyKerry'sEuropeanfans,thebeheadings--allofthelatterjustdoesn'tseemtochangethe'90smentalityofthoseIknowwhoarevotingfortheDemocraticPartyticket.LikeKerry,theystillseemtoconsidertheUnitedStates'life-and-deathstruggleanuisance.Theseliberalfriendsofminearecertainlynotbadpeople,butdeepdown,theystilldon'tgetthatweareatwarwithagreaterevilthananyofushaseverknown.Combinedwiththeextremismculturallyontheleft,thesepeoplearebecomingmorethananuisancethemselves.

Sure,friendscan'tagreeoneverything,noraretheysupposedtobutthoughImaythinksomeone'saniceperson,fun,etc.,increasinglydeepdifferencesinourworldviewcan'tbeignoredinthesefrighteningtimes.
Yet,westillliveverydifferentlives.Mycollegefriendhasbeenmarriedfor25yearstotheloveofherlife,themotherofthreeandanexecutiveinanentertainmentcorporation.Andmeanwhilehersinglefree-lancingwriter/actressfriend,evenafteralltheseyearsstilldoesimpressionsofheronlyinprintnow.
Happily,othershavealsocomealongtobecomecomradesinarmsthiselection.Theyrepresentadiversityinlifestylethatwouldwarmanyliberal'sheart(althoughsaidliberalwouldn'twarmourhearts).There'sGeniethestockbroker,Cathythecastingdirector,Robinthemomofoneofmyformeractingstudents,Sallythedaughterofoneofmymother'soldfriendsandmanyothers.Theire-mailmessagesandcallsletmeknowthatthoughotherfriendshipsmaywitherduringthiselection,I'mhardlyalone.Theyallhaveapointofviewthatenablesustoskiptoshorthand.("DidyoureadDrudge?""Yep!")Allofthesewomenmakeupmyownpersonalnon-elitistversionof"TheView,TheConservativeCut."
